Alessandro Banchelli is an Italian fine art photographer whose work explores the relationship between time, memory, and materiality through the language of contemporary photography.

Born in Tuscany, Italy, he graduated in Philosophy from the University of Florence, where his interest in aesthetics, perception, and the nature of representation began to shape his artistic vision. Rather than approaching photography as a tool for documentation, he sees it as a contemplative practice—one capable of revealing the silent narratives embedded within ordinary places and overlooked surfaces.

His photographic journey has taken him across Europe, Africa, Asia, and Latin America before he settled in Mexico in 2007. Living between Italy and the Yucatán Peninsula, Banchelli has developed a visual language deeply influenced by two contrasting landscapes: the layered historical architecture of the Mediterranean and the weathered textures shaped by the tropical climate of the Mexican Caribbean. These environments have become the foundation of an ongoing investigation into the poetry of impermanence.

At the core of his practice lies an interest in transforming the ordinary into the universal. Weathered walls, fading pigments, fractured plaster, and subtle traces of human presence become autonomous visual fields where abstraction emerges directly from reality. His images occupy a space between photography and painting, inviting viewers to reconsider familiar surfaces as landscapes of memory rather than architectural elements.

His long-term series The Wall embodies this vision. Developed across different countries and cultural contexts, the project investigates walls as living archives—surfaces where history, climate, and human experience accumulate over time. By isolating fragments from their original context, Banchelli dissolves geographical references and encourages a slower, more contemplative way of seeing. The resulting works challenge the distinction between representation and abstraction, suggesting that the passage of time can itself become a visual language.

Alongside his artistic practice, Banchelli has built an international career as a professional photographer for more than two decades. His work has received recognition from leading international photography associations and has been exhibited in Europe, while his documentary approach continues to inform the precision and observational depth of his fine art practice.

Today, Alessandro Banchelli lives and works between Tuscany and Mexico, where he continues to expand The Wall into an evolving photographic archive that investigates the universal dialogue between place, time, and human presence.
